Monday, September 17, the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed a decree on termination of the Agreement on friendship, cooperation and partnership with Russia of may 31, 1997.

The decision was taken by the Council of national security and defense on 6 September 2018. Thus, the Council supported the proposal of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
Now the foreign Ministry should inform about the decision of the UN, OSCE and other international organizations.
It should be noted that Ukraine has decided not to terminate the Treaty of friendship with Russia, and not just renew, the term of which ends on 31 March 2019.We will remind, the Agreement on friendship, cooperation and partnership between Ukraine and Russia, signed in 1997, became the founding document of Ukrainian-Russian relations, suggesting strategic partnership “based on principles of mutual respect, sovereign equality, territorial integrity, inviolability of borders, peaceful settlement of disputes, non-use of force or threat by force, including economic and other means of pressure”.
