About it the Minister announced during the opening ceremony of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Edmonton.
“In the early twentieth century, my family came to Canada from Ukraine and settled in the West,” said Duncan.
She added that her ancestors, over time, lost contact with relatives in Ukraine.
“When migrants arrived in Canada, you often lost contact with their family, rarely wrote letters,” said the Minister.
According to Duncan, the opening of the Consulate General of Ukraine “will increase, and so a strong friendship between our countries”.
“Today is an important historical and very emotional day for me” she concluded.
As you know, the Minister of foreign Affairs of Canada Chrystia Freeland, too, is of Ukrainian origin. For the strong support of our state back in 2014 declared persona non grata in Russia. All in all, among the current members of the Federal Parliament of Canada of Ukrainian origin have more than 10 members.
