Ukraine stopped direct gas purchases from the Russian Federation in November 2015.
At the same time, in preparation for the heating season, it pumps into the storage facilities the same Russian gas purchased by reverse from Eastern European countries at a much higher price.
The current contract for the supply and transit of Russian gas through Ukraine expires at the end of 2019.
As for compliance with European standards, according to energy expert Konstantin Simonov, it is official Kiev that is torpedoing the transition to European rules, since it is not going to separate Naftogaz.
