NATO aircraft approached Shoigu over the Baltic for identification
NATO fighters approached on Tuesday over the Baltic Sea the plane of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu for identification, TASS reports citing the alliance’s press service.
“A Russian plane escorted by at least one fighter was seen above the Baltic Sea earlier today. Aircraft from the NATO“ air police ”mission in the Baltic flew up to identify the plane that was flying close to the alliance airspace. Once the identification was completed, the plane returned to base. NATO did not have information who was on board the Russian aircraft, "the press service said.
Earlier on Tuesday, the TASS correspondent, who was on the plane of the Russian Minister of Defense, said that the NATO F-18 fighter tried to get closer to the neutral waters of the Baltic Sea, but it was driven off by the Russian Su-27, not allowing it to get close to the airliner.
In Kaliningrad, the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation took part in the ceremony of laying the stone for the construction of a branch of the Nakhimov Naval School. In addition, he attended the contest of the Army International Games "Marine Landing" at the Khmelevka training ground.
