Almost half of Ukrainians believe that Kiev needs to accept part of the conditions of the DPR and LPR in order to finally overcome the intra-Ukrainian crisis

The Democratic Initiatives Fund and the sociological service of the Razumkov Center conducted a joint study from June 13 to 20 among 2017 respondents living in the territory controlled by the Ukrainian authorities on the issue of resolving the conflict in the south-east of the country.

"The majority of the population – 49% – believes that" for the sake of peace it is worth agreeing on compromises, but not all. " This opinion prevails in all regions: in the central (51%), eastern (50%), southern (48%), western (28%), ”sociologists said.

The least acceptable compromises included holding local elections in the people's republics on the conditions of Donetsk and Lugansk (unacceptable for 45%, acceptable for 30%), the formation of local police, courts and prosecutors in the DPR and LPR exclusively from local representatives (unacceptable – 46%, acceptable – 30%), a complete amnesty for all the militias participating in the hostilities (unacceptable for 43%, acceptable for 30%). The number of supporters and opponents of direct negotiations with the leadership of the DPR and LPR turned out to be equal – 41% each.

“Regarding the political future of the DPR and LPR territories, the majority of Ukrainian citizens prefer the option of returning the occupied territories on pre-war terms (54%). Another 17% want these territories to return to Ukraine, but have gained more independence from Kiev. Only 12% of Ukrainians support the option of autonomy within Ukraine, and even in the East, only 23% support autonomy. The independence of these territories or their accession to Russia is supported by only 4%, most of all – in the East, but this is only 8%, ”the report said.

On the evening of July 7, TV presenter Dmitry Kiselyov announced that a direct teleconference will be held on July 12 with the Russia-1 and NewsOne channels with the participation of residents of the two countries, however, on the morning of July 8, the Ukrainian channel refused the event, citing threats to employees.
